Arriva Derby hosted a behind the scenes tour of their bus depot for young people and their parents/carers as part of the Council’s Independent Travel Training project.
Since 2014, the project has enabled 111 young people with special education needs to travel independently around the city. This gives them the freedom to travel to school, college or meet up with friends without having to rely on parents for lifts or taxis.
Alfie, the Arriva Derby mascot joined the tour and there was a short presentation and a film about planning a bus journey for the first time. There was a quick trip through a bus wash to finish off the tour – luckily the bus windows were closed!
If you’d like to find out more about the project or are interested in becoming a volunteer call 01332 640181 or email the project.
