Derby City Council has successfully prosecuted Manan Properties Limited, Mr Yash Pal Manan and Mr Pavandeep Manan who were handed fines totalling £18,844.60.

Manan Properties Limited, Mr Yash Pal Manan and Mr Pavandeep Manan were prosecuted by the Derby City Council Housing Standards team at South Derbyshire Magistrates Court on Thursday 4th July 2019 relating to offences at rented properties at Twyford Street, Derby.

On Saturday 10th November 2018 there was a large fire at a commercial garage on Twyford Street, Derby in which many properties were damaged.

During a subsequent inspection of the adjacent properties on Monday 12th November 2018, four were found to have no gas or electric supply and structural damage. An Emergency Prohibition Orders was immediately placed on the four properties prohibiting them for being used for any purpose.

On Tuesday 11th December 2018 an officer revisited the properties and found them all to be occupied with the Prohibition Orders still in place.

Manan Properties was found guilty of breaching a Prohibition Order and fined £5,000, ordered to pay the Council’s prosecution costs of £1,653.28 and a victim surcharge of £170.

Mr Yash Pal Manan and his son Mr Pavandeep Manan were found guilty of breaching three Prohibition Orders and fined £10,000, ordered to pay the Council’s prosecution costs of £1851.32 and a victim surcharge of £170.

Mr Yash Pal Manan had previously been convicted by Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court for six offences in January 2018 and June 2019 for which he was fined £33,000 and £15,000.

In summing up, Chair of the Bench said “Today we are dealing with serious offences. We are concerned, alarmed and appalled that you allowed properties to be occupied with disregard to the Prohibition Orders and posing significant risks to the tenants and their children”
