We recently hosted nearly 200 people at our first Disability Big Health Day at Derby Arena.

Our Equality team, and Disability Equality Hub teamed up with Livewell, Derbyshire Healthcare NHS and Forever Active to give people living with disabilities a taste of the huge range of activities available for them at facilities like Derby Arena. Attendees were able to have a go at activities such as sitting volleyball, basketball, boccia, cultural arts and crafts, football/futsal and adapted cycling.

Councillor Nicola Roulstone Cabinet Member and Champion of Disabled People said:

We know we all need to keep fit and active, but for disabled people , it isn’t always that easy to pop in the local gym.

By hosting this ‘have a go day’ we hope to highlight the many sports and activities that disabled people can take part in.

It was great to see so many people attend, and really enjoy the session; the feedback was really positive, and many people have asked for us to do it again next year, which we will absolutely look to do.
