This morning, train manufacturer Bombardier announced that they had signed a deal worth £1 billion with Abiello UK to build 1,000 new carriages for East Anglia’s rail network. 660 of these will be built at the Litchurch Lane site in Derby and the deal has also secured 1,000 jobs for workers in the City.
Council Leader, Cllr Ranjit Banwait said about the great news:
“We have always supported local industries such as Bombardier and will continue to do so – Derby is a city fiercely proud of its engineering heritage and is a city with a wide range of skills and high tech facilities. Well done to Bombardier in securing the East Anglia Rail contract, which in turn will secure and boost the industry and protect jobs in Derby as well as the rest of the UK.”
