The days of scrambling around for change to pay to park across Derby are now at an end with new cashless payment systems rolled out across the city.

Derby City Council recently introduced a Pay by Phone option, with partner MiPermit, which is now available on all surface car parks and on street pay and display bays:

  • Ford Street
  • Sovereign
  • Abbey Street
  • Drewry Lane
  • Grove Street
  • Little City
  • Wilmot Street
  • Abbey Street East
  • Darwin Place

Customers receive text alerts when their paid for parking time is due to expire, giving them the opportunity to purchase more time.

Pay by card and smart phone facilities are also available at all three multi-storey car parks – Bold Lane, Assembly Rooms and Chapel Street, following a successful trial earlier in the year at Bold Lane.

The amount of people using cashless payments in the car parks has doubled in the first month.

Councillor Jonathan Smale, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Streetpride said:

“These upgrades are something that our customers have been asking for, and will not only make parking easier and more convenient for everyone, but will also result in efficiency savings for the Council as we can reduce the number of cash collections made by our security company.”
