Summer Reading Challenge
This years Summer Reading Challenge for 4 to 11 year olds will allow them to join the super space family, The Rockets, in an out-of-this-world adventure on a thrilling mission to track down books stolen by mischievous aliens! The Summer Reading Challenge will also have a programme of free space events at Alvaston, Mickleover and Riverside Libraries. These events include If you believe…, Sammy’s Space Adventure, Roald Dahl’s The Enormous Crocodile, A Quite Remarkable Adventure and Space Race animal handling workshop. Floyd in the Flesh
Music fans can take a trip to the dark side of the moon on Saturday 27 July with Floyd in the Flesh. At Landau Forte College Theatre Floyd in the Flesh will be delivering an incredible 8 piece, fully live tribute to Pink Floyd. This show, featuring an out of this world light and laser show will fully immerse the audience into the atmosphere, sights and sounds of a real Pink Floyd live show. The Hannells Darley Park Concert
The Hannells Darley Park Concert this year will also be celebrating 1969. As Sinfonia Viva return, supported by Rolls-Royce, with accomplished conductor Ben Pope, they promise to bring a programme that will celebrate the moon landing among other great events of 1969. This evening of classical music and fireworks is certain to be a wonderful experience for the whole family. Professor Brian Cox UNIVERSAL World Tour 2019
A Derby Arena audience will be taken on a journey through the universe on Tuesday 10 September as Professor Brian Cox brings his show Universal – World Tour 2019 back to Derby. Professor Brian Cox offers a fascinating insight into the universe, making challenging ideas accessible to all, exploring the vast, possibly infinite universe and our place within it from earth to the edges of the cosmos. This year’s Derby Festè will be taking Derby into outer space with a programme of events around the theme of space, moon and tides. Derby Cathedral will be transformed as Museum of the Moon by artist Luke Jerram is installed for Derby Festè; the installation will be a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound composition. Derby Festè will be taking place on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 September in Derby City Centre.
