Derby City Council’s efforts to generate interest in the area from China took another step forward this month.
Hino Travel, a Chinese inbound travel agent was part of the recent trade delegation from the region to China in November 2017 and since then The Derby City Council Tourism Team, VisitDerby has been working with them to encourage them to include Derby attractions in their itineraries for visits of all sizes and types from business visitors and VIPs to students and first time group travellers.
During the visit to China, Hino trained their local sales team on visiting Derby and Derbyshire. Then in January, this was followed up with a familiarisation visit to the region for Hino travel UK staff. Their itinerary included Derby Cathedral, Royal Crown Derby, The Old Bell and Bluebells Dairy amongst other venues.
The work has started to see results with a small group of VIPs visiting Royal Crown Derby on Saturday 25th February.
Yu Zhang, Deputy General Manager of Hino Travel as follows:
“The visitors to Royal Crown Derby liked the china there very much and bought a lot to take home with them. We are looking forward to bringing more groups to Derby in 2018.”
Cllr Amo Raju, Cabinet Member for Leisure Culture and Tourism said:
“It’s great for us to be working with companies like Hino to attract visitors to Derby and I hope this is the first of many such groups that will visit the city from China.
“We’ve worked very hard to create a link with Hefei and we are starting to see that rewarded.”
John Forkin from Marketing Derby said:
“Tourism from China is a massive growth market, and it’s important to get places like Derby and Derbyshire on their itineraries, as well as the usual London and Edinburgh tours.”
