On Thursday 14th November, Leader of the Council, Councillor Chris Poulter met with five Chinese student representatives from the University of Derby at the Council House. The five students have been selected as volunteers to offer help in creating content for Chinese social media and support with translating documents.
Councillor Chris Poulter presented certificates to the volunteers and encouraged them explore the community in Derby to discover the cultural differences between the two cities.
Councillor Chris Poulter, Leader of the Derby City Council said:
“It was a real pleasure to meet with the students and their enthusiasm was really evident. We really do appreciate them volunteering. It’s fantastic to meet these young people who want to give back and I’m really looking forward to hearing about their time here and all the activities they engage in.”
Huiying Ma, one of the student volunteers said that meeting with Councillor Chris Poulter was a huge inspiration to her and other volunteers and that they would like to act as a cultural bridge between Derby and China.
The students also had the opportunity to visit the Mayor’s parlour and a tour of Council Chamber after meeting.
