Update: Friday 4th January.
Unfortunately, we have not been able to empty every bin on today’s schedule.
We have organised for additional rounds to take place on Monday (7th January), in order to complete the work that has been missed today. If your bin has been missed, please put it out on Monday.
We apologise for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience.
Update: Thursday 3rd January.
Unfortunately, due to unexpected issues with some of our vehicles today, we have been unable to empty a number of bins as planned.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that has been caused.
We will be running extra collection rounds tomorrow (Friday 4th January) to try to catch up. If your bin has not been collected today, please leave it out and we will collect it as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience as we work through this busy period.
Update: Thursday 3rd January.
Despite our best efforts, we were not able to empty bins on some streets as planned yesterday (Wednesday 2nd).
If your bin was due to be emptied, please leave it out for collection and we will get to you as soon as possible. This is our busiest time of year for bin collections, and we appreciate everyone’s patience while we make our way around the city.
Christmas is nearly here, so it’s time to check when your final bin collections of the year will be.
There will be no collections in the week starting Monday 24th December.
You can use our bin day look-up tool to see your full collection schedule.
Over the holiday break, you will not be able to use the missed bin tool to report a missed bin, as our collections are not running.
New Year bin schedule
This year, our New Year bin collections are running slightly differently.
New Year’s Day 2019 falls on a Tuesday, so we are moving Tuesday bin collections to another day. There will be no bin collections on Tuesday 1st January.
So, if your normal bin day is a Tuesday, please check to see when your bin will be collected in the first week of January.
If your normal bin day is a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, you will still have your bins collected on those days.
As in previous years, your collection rota will be paused for the Christmas week. This means that in the week after Christmas we will pick up where we left off.
So, if in the week commencing Monday 17th December your blue bin was emptied, you will need to put your black bin out for your collection on Wednesday 2nd, Thursday 3rd, or Friday 4th January.
If your black bin was collected in the week commending Monday 17th December, then your blue bin will be collected on Wednesday 2nd, Thursday 3rd, or Friday 4th January.
Collection tags – keep an eye out
We will soon be delivering bin tags out around the city to let people know about their bin collections.
Please keep an eye out for these, as they will show you which days we are running collections and which of your bins you need to put out.
Collecting extra on your first two bin days of 2019
When collections start again in January, we will collect extra waste along with your bins for the first two weeks of collections only.
For your first black bin day in January (general waste bin), you can leave up to three extra bags of waste out for us to collect. Please ensure that it is properly bagged.
For your first blue bin day in January (recycling bin), you may leave extra boxes or clear plastic bags of recyclable materials. We recommend using the extra space for paper and cardboard, and making sure there is enough room in your wheelie bin for any glass you wish to recycle. Please ensure the bags or boxes are open so the refuse crews can see the contents.
To save room, please collapse any cardboard boxes you put in your recycling, and squash all cartons and plastic bottles.
Take a look at our top tips for reducing waste over Christmas to make more room in your bins. From next year, collections of garden recycling will be free again, and you will be able to recycle food waste in your brown bins along with garden materials. This will mean more room in general waste bins come Christmas 2019.
Over the holidays, you can take any excess recycling and waste to Raynesway Household Waste and Recycling Centre. To make your trip quicker, separate your materials before you leave so you can dispose of them quickly when you arrive at Raynesway.
You can find more information on the Christmas bin collection page on our website.
