We are seeking a suitable group or organisation to take over the management of a former sports centre which desperately needs a new lease of life.
The Shaftesbury Sports Centre in Normanton has the potential to be a busy and well used amenity. This is an excellent opportunity to transform the use of this key local asset for the benefit of the whole community. The Centre is situated within a popular neighbourhood park and lies adjacent to recently refurbished multiuse games courts.
We’re looking for expressions of interest from any groups or organisations, who might be interested in taking on the building – or a number of groups or organisations working together. The closing date for initial Expressions of Interest is Monday 5th November.
Interested parties must be able to demonstrate how they will run the Centre in a safe, sustainable and financially viable manner, and how they will work with other groups and the wider community to develop the Centre so that everyone has access to the facilities.
The successful group or organisation must be prepared to take on all the costs associated with the Centre – however, in return for maintaining the building and providing services benefiting the community, we’re prepared to offer a lease on appropriate terms.
Councillor Mick Barker, Cabinet Member for Governance and Licensing commented:
“This is a great opportunity for local businesses and groups to provide new and exciting facilities that will not just benefit the local community but the city as a whole.”
Anyone wanting to find out more about this can come to an Information Event at The Council House at any time between 1.00pm and 4.00pm on Thursday (18th October).
