The Chapter Steward at Derby Cathedral is among the winners in the prestigious Rising Star Awards 2017.
Rachel Morris, who joined the Cathedral in January 2015, is one of five winners in the property and facilities management section.
The awards aim to promote the work of women in order to create role models across different industries and professions. This year’s winners will receive their awards on July 12th at a ceremony in London.
Rachel, who trained originally as an occupational therapist before working in the licensed retail trade, was nominated not just for her role at the Cathedral.
She worked previously for nine years at YMCA Derbyshire and has chaired various groups including the Derby Street Drinkers’ Intervention Panel and Derby Hostel Liaison Group.
The awards were entered by 1,250 individuals and were overseen by a panel of 33 independent judges.
Over 35,000 public votes were received for the 200 shortlisted nominees split into 22 sections.
Vanessa Vallely, MD of organisers WeAreTheCity, said:
“Once again the response to the Rising Star awards has been amazing, both in terms of the amount of nominations received and the calibre of entries.
“We know there is an amazing amount of female talent across the UK and it gives us such pleasure to be able to shine a light on these women’s achievements through our awards.”
