Derby City Council has named Carole Mills as its new Chief Executive.
Carole is currently the Chief Executive of Milton Keynes Council. Following a thorough selection process, and subject to formal approval at a meeting of Full Council on 23rd May, she will take up her new post in Derby in the summer.
Carole joined Milton Keynes Council as Chief Executive in 2014 and over the last 16 years has held senior strategic roles at metropolitan and unitary councils including Walsall and Nottingham City.
“I’m delighted to be joining Derby City Council at such an exciting time. Derby is growing with a strong economy and ambitious plans for the future. I’m very much looking forward to working with councillors, colleagues, partners, businesses and the community to ensure those plans come to fruition and to deliver excellent services for our citizens, local communities and businesses.”
Christine Durrant will continue as Acting Chief Executive until Carole’s arrival in the summer.
“This is a key appointment for us. The panels, comprising councillors from all political parties and key partners from across the city and region, saw a number of strong candidates but Carole stood out. She brings with her a great deal of experience of leading a wide range of council services and is already a successful local government Chief Executive.
“We look forward to welcoming Carole to Derby where we know she’ll work tirelessly to deliver our priorities and turn our vision to grow as a safe, strong and ambitious city into a reality.”
The cross party panel’s decision was unanimous. Comments from the panels included: “Very strong”, “Down to earth”, “Inspirational” and “Persuasive”.
The formal appointment decision will be made by councillors at the Annual General Meeting of Derby City Council on Wednesday 23rd May.
