Derby Homes have been recognised by the Derbyshire Dignity Awards for our achievements in supporting vulnerable tenants.
Our work safeguarding, supporting and engaging with people living in our properties has been praised by the Derby Adult Safeguarding Board, and highlights how staff across the organisation work with our tenants to enable them to live as independently as possible and have control over their lives.
As part of the Dignity Award, Derby Homes Tenancy Sustainability Team had to demonstrate how their work achieves the organisations ten “Dignity Do’s”, using real examples of tenants they have supported through the service. These criteria include have zero tolerance for all forms of abuse, treating each person as an individual by offering a personalised service, listening to people to allow them to express their wants and needs, and enabling tenants to maintain the maximum possible level of independence, choice and control over their own lives.
In addition to the work of the Tenancy Sustainability Team, Derby Homes creates opportunities for residents to be involved at all levels of the organisation, from running events in our community rooms to sitting on our Operational Board, ensuring that their voices can be heard. We also manage Parkland View, an extra-care facility for older people, with a focus on creating a ‘village-style’ community to help tackle loneliness and social isolation.
Led by the National Dignity Council, the Dignity Award aims to put dignity and respect at the heart of organisations who work with vulnerable adults, inspiring people to be part of a nationwide movement of champions, working individually and collectively to promote access to dignity as a human right for all. The Dignity Award demonstrate how teams achieve these values in their work.
Clare Mehrbani, Director of Housing Services said:
“We’re absolutely delighted to have been recognised by the Dignity in Care Awards. The demographics of our tenants are changing, and though we are seeing more and more people with vulnerabilities and complex needs, we are still maintaining high quality services. This award really speaks to the dedication and compassion of our Tenancy Sustainability Team – and all Derby Homes staff – showing how they engage with residents to help them maintain the maximum possible level of independence.”
