Residents of Derby have shown solidarity and generosity of spirit in signing the book of condolences for those who suffered in the Manchester attack on Monday 22nd May.

The book was opened by the Mayor – Councillor John Whitby – on Wednesday May 24th. Since then, it has been filled with poignant and heartfelt messages from all members of the Derby community.

Today (Friday 7th July), we have sent the book to Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, to express our sympathies. Councillor Whitby and Councillor Banwait, Leader of the Council, have also written a joint letter to Mr Burnham to accompany the book.

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to write a message of hope and support. You have demonstrated the kindness that is at the heart of the City of Derby.

Books of condolence for the Borough Market attack and the Grenfell Tower fire are still open in the Council House reception for anyone who wishes to sign them.
