Councillor Sara Bolton Cabinet Member for Children and Young People and Safeguarding and Derby County Footballer, Will Hughes, congratulated the winner, Matthew Frost, of a joint promotion between Derby City Council and Derby County Football club on Saturday 21st January during County’s home game against Reading.
The promotion was part of the Council’s New Year, New You fostering campaign which Derby County agreed to support. The football club kindly donated a signed DCFC home shirt as the prize draw. Followers of the club simply needed to retweet or repost the given messages to have a chance of winning. The prize also included two free tickets to the Reading game. Derby County’ social media support has helped Derby City Council highlight the need for more foster carers and to heighten public awareness of its fostering information event on Saturday 28 January at the Mickleover Court Hotel, 2.00 pm. It was very befitting that two such prolific Derby organisations could come together for the good of the City’s most vulnerable children.
Councillor Sara Bolton said:
I am delighted to have been here to help present the winner of our joint promotion. It was important for me to come along to express my gratitude to the winner and indeed everyone who became involved. It has helped enormously in spreading the word of our event and the urgent need we have for more foster carers to come forward. The New Year is often a time when people reflect and consider their aspirations for the year ahead. I would urge anyone who has ever considered fostering to come along to our event to find out more.
The event will provide useful information about the fostering process; the high level of support Derby City Council provide; how to become a foster carer and also give the opportunity to find out more about the children in our care. Talking with our existing foster carers is a great opportunity to discover first-hand what it is like to foster – both the challenges and the rewards – and to discover how fostering can make a tremendous difference to not only our cared for children, but everyone involved in helping to give them a home.
