Visitors to Derby Festé this September will enjoy the very best of different cultures in a two-day outdoor entertainment spectacular.
This year’s festival will be held on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th September with the theme of fusing Western and Eastern cultures in the most spectacular fashion.
Derby Festé will open at 5.30pm on Friday night at Bass’ Recreation Ground which will be transformed into ‘Festé World of Circus’ for the only ticketed event of the weekend.
The event includes a Food Village, family circus entertainment and the show-stopping headline act – ‘The Altitude Show’ aerial performance by European artists Gorilla Circus.
The second day of Derby Festé on Saturday 30th September will see the return of the popular free programme of street entertainment across the city centre.
At 5pm, crowds will gather for the ‘Colour of Time’ procession. Choreographed by French company Artonik, dancers and musicians will move through the city centre in a colourful parade with the audience joining the finale on Cathedral Green and painting the sky with an explosion of Gulal powder.
This paves the way for the climax of Derby Festé in the Market Place – the traditional Indian Garba dance.
Spectators will be invited to watch the start and then join in culminating in thousands of people enjoying the live music and joining in the dance.
Also in the Market Place will be the Derby Night Market, organised by Sheena Holland, which will feature a wide range of arts, crafts and vintage stalls as well as food and drink stalls.
Tickets for Festé World of Circus are £7 each or £5 per person in group bookings of eight or more. They are available from the Derby Live box office in the Market Place, online or by calling 01332 255800.
