The Children’s Book Trail is back at this year’s Derby Book Festival!
Thirty five shops are taking part in this year’s trail which will see book displays in windows along Sadler Gate, the Strand Arcade and at Derby Museum, all linked by a forest theme.
The trail will run from Friday 25th May – Sunday 10th June. Children can pick up a Book Trail quiz sheet from participating shops (displaying a window card). The quiz sheet will have a list of famous children’s books and fairytales; the children are invited to match up the stories to the shops. In each participating shop window will be a flyer and a photo frame containing a picture and an engaging quote from the book.
This year, the quiz is a little harder: the title of the book is not necessarily given on the display itself – children will have to work it out from the clues in the windows and from the list of books given on the quiz sheet. They can drop the completed sheets into the red letter box in White Stuff at 44 Sadler Gate for the chance of winning one of five Waterstones book vouchers in the Book Trail Prize Draw.
The Book Trail has proved to be one of the most popular children’s activities at previous Festivals.
Liz Fothergill, the Festival Chair said:
“Derby Book Festival seeks to inspire a love of books and engage people in life-long reading, The Book Trail is a key part of this work, encouraging a passion for books and reading from an early age by making them fun. We are delighted to have the support of local businesses and Waterstones in bringing these books to life.”
Full details of all the events and activities can be found on the Festival website, and tickets can be booked online.
