Parking at Chapel Street car park will be free tomorrow, Saturday 1st December, as Derby City Council supports Small Business Saturday.

The national event, first held in the UK in 2013, aims to encourage people to ‘shop local’ and support small independent businesses in their communities and provide a boost in the lead up to Christmas.

The Council will be offering free parking in their Chapel Street car park, all day, to encourage as many people to come into the city and support these small businesses.

Councillor Jonathan Smale, Cabinet Member for Communities, Neighbourhoods and Streetpride said:

“It’s really important that we support our high streets which are vital to our local communities, and celebrate the valuable contribution the independent retailers make to our city.

There are some wonderful independent businesses, and this is just one small way we can help support them.  I encourage as many people as possible, to take the opportunity to see what they have to offer and start your Christmas shopping by buying local this Small Business Saturday.”
