A Derby company with a mission to make it easier for businesses to sell online is expanding, thanks to support from the Derby Enterprise Growth Fund (DEGF).

A grant for £80,000 enabled EWS Digital to invest in new premises on Brunel Parkway, Pride Park, Derby, creating 11 new jobs.

Founder and Operations Director David Hall started the company in 2008, with revenue doubling year-on-year ever since. Stimulation from the DEGF fund has enabled the company to match its resources with the growing demand.

Major rebranding at EWS Digital, together with platform improvements, led the company into a phase of ‘hypergrowth’. Large companies like Morrison’s, Starbucks and McCormick Schwartz, together with a multitude of SME’s, have benefitted from EWS Digital’s expertise in e-commerce solutions, supply chain management and digital marketing.

The funding focuses on stimulating innovation, expansion and investment in enterprises with the key objective of creating jobs. It is managed by the Council’s Economic Regeneration Team which distributes the funding in the form of grants and loans.

Councillor Martin Rawson, Deputy Leader of Derby City Council and Cabinet Member for Communities and City Centre Regeneration, said:

“The Derby Enterprise Growth Fund made available to EWS Digital is a great example of how businesses with potential can be supported to achieve sustainable growth. The labour-led administration of the Council has used the fund to stimulate employment opportunities for local people.”

David Hall, Founder and Operations Director at EWS Digital, said:

“It quickly became important to move to an accessible, highly visible location from where we can attract the staff with the skills we need to sustain growth.”

The move to Pride Park did this and put us right at the heart of the business community who are in need of our skills. The Derby Enterprise Growth Fund has enabled us to take advantage of the opportunities we had, at just the right time.”

DEGF is a £20 million pot of funding achieved through a successful bid into the Regional Growth Fund. Businesses with plans for growth and job creation in Derby and the travel to work area are encouraged to apply.

Applications for DEGF continue to be welcomed by Derby City Council. To find out more visit the Derby City Council website  alternatively, call 01332 641628 or email degf@derby.gov.uk
