Councillor Asaf Afzal  will be attending a ‘Great Get Together’ event on the Market Place on Saturday 17 June at 11am.

The event is in memory of Jo Cox.

Councillor Asaf Afzal Cabinet member for Neighbourhoods and Public Protection stated:

”We all want our country to be a place where people feel safe with real opportunities for a good life and future. People from all backgrounds came together recently to show unity after the horrific attacks in London and Manchester.

We want our city to be a place where people have a sense of belonging and the memory of Jo Cox and those who died will inspire us to continue to reach out to all our communities encouraging them to contribute to society and get on well together.”

The event is in partnership with Hope Not Hate and in the spirit of Jo Cox’s famous quote “More unites us than divides us” there will be community events around the country on the 17 and 18 June 2017 for all to celebrate unity and peace.
