The registration date for the 2019 Garden Recycling Scheme has been announced!

You will be able to register for free garden recycling collections from Wednesday 2nd January 2019.

Eagle-eyed residents will spot this announcement on the reverse of the Christmas bin tags which are going out around the city in the lead-up to Christmas.

When do I need to register by?

If you would like to take part in the scheme, you will need to let us know how many bins are at your address so we know how many to expect on bin day.

We recommend registering before Friday 1st March to ensure your collections start as early as possible.

There are three kinds of registration available:

  1. People who took part in the 2018 chargeable scheme: your details are already on our system and you will automatically be registered for collections. All you need to do is put your bin out on bin day! Your collections will begin in April 2019 – nearer the time you can check on the bin day look-up tool to see when bin day will be.
  2. People who did not have garden recycling collections in 2018 but do have a usable brown bin: please register before Friday 1st March to be eligible for collections beginning in April 2019. Shortly before collections are due to start you can check the bin day look-up tool for your collection schedule.
  3. People who do not currently have a usable brown bin: please register before Friday 1st March to be eligible for collections starting no later than August 2019. Shortly before collections are due to start you can check the bin day look-up tool for your collection schedule.

If you do not have a brown bin, you will be eligible for one free bin. If you would like additional ones, these will cost £40 each. Read more about the plans for the scheme.

How can I register?

The easiest way to register for the Garden Recycling Scheme will be online. You will be able to access the form on our website from Wednesday 2nd January; we will remind residents to register in the new year.

You will also be able to register in person at the Council House or by calling Derby Direct.
