Extraordinary times call for extraordinary people. Across the city and within the Council we’re overflowing with shining examples of those who are going above and beyond.
From our key worker colleagues working with the community to help the most vulnerable, to those taking on new roles to keep essential services running – and everything in between.
That’s why we’ve launched our new #HereForDerby campaign. We’re celebrating the stories of those who are helping to keep our city running during these unprecedented times.
Our #HereForDerby heroes come in many forms, including the back-office colleagues who are working hard to support teams around them.
Business Support is one of those key teams, and in such uncertain times these colleagues are pulling together and adapting to the rapid pace of change.
Here we speak to Business Development Manager, Nicola Wilson, about how her colleagues are rising to the current challenge.
“It’s the sheer commitment and good will of everyone that’s made me most proud – they’re just getting on with it, and doing what needs to be done.
“We’re here to help people across the Council and city. A lot of our core support is critical and this has continued but some of our-day-to-day work has been inevitably been put on hold, and we’re using our time where it’s most needed.”
From supporting the new online booking system for Council key workers to get COVID-19 tests, to scanning important NHS records as part of an external contract, they’ve been pulled into a number of crucial tasks since coronavirus hit.
“Things are changing at such a pace, but everyone is rising to the challenge. This time a few months ago how could I have imagined I’d be helping to set up and manage a system for testing colleagues for a serious virus?
“I’m really proud of everyone’s willingness to adapt. The majority of our team have never really worked from home before, and very quickly they’ve had to get used to new technology, new ways of working and all the challenges that can bring.”
Despite the uncertain times, Nicola says the Team Derby spirit is alive and well, adding:
“People seem to appreciate those around them even more. It’s hard not seeing everyone in the office each day, and makes me realise how lucky we are to work with such great people, we’ve certainly got a fantastic team spirit!”
