Since 1995 we have held a week of events and activities to showcase the inspiring city of Derby.

Organisations from across the city, led by Derby City Council’s Adult Learning Service, have come together to showcase and celebrate what the city has to offer. The week is packed full of opportunities to “have a go” and learn something new, to have a look “behind the scenes” at some of our leading businesses or to find out more about the history and heritage of Derby by visiting some of its unique buildings. Many of the events are free of charge.

There is a wide variety from which to choose and there should be something for everyone but the activities are very popular, so most sessions need to be booked in advance.

Monday 18th June

Inspiring Derby Week Launch, Central Library Building, The Wardwick –
World Cultures Gallery, DE1 1HS, 11.30am – 1pm.

Start the week with a bang by joining us for the official launch of Inspiring Derby Week 2018. Following refreshments upon arrival, the event will include an update on the exciting plans for the Central Library Building by Derby Museums.

French class, Rycote Centre, Parker Street, Derby, DE1 3HF, 2pm – 4pm.

‘Bonjour parlez-vous Francais?’ If you don’t speak French but you fancy having a go, then we will offer you a ‘Bienvenue’ (welcome) to this informal session. Bring yourself, your smile and a willingness to have a go. No need to bring paper, pencil, dictionary and certainly no need for nerves – this will be a very relaxed and fun session.

Tuesday 19th June

Italian Cookery and Wines, Landau Forte College, Fox Street, Derby, DE1 2LF, 7pm – 9pm.

Come along and cook some Italian food to match three different Italian wines. Learn more about the regions of Italy and local produce.

You can eat what you cook and start to match the wines to the dishes. (£5 to cover the cost of the wine)

Wednesday 20th June

Introduction to British Sign Language (BSL), Derby Multicultural Centre, Dariyhouse Road, Derby, DE23 8HN, 10am – 12noon.

Want to communicate with deaf and hearing impaired people? Come to this taster to
find out how some everyday signs so you can communicate with deaf family, friends or
colleagues. No previous knowledge required.

Guitar for all abilities, Littleover Community School, Pastures Hill, Littleover, Derby, DE23 4BZ, 6.30pm – 8.30pm

Improve your guitar skills and musical knowledge. Our tutor will gauge your ability and interests and tailor the session to suit you. Please bring your own guitar.

Thursday 21st June

3D scanning at Derby Museums, Museum and Art Gallery, The Strand, Derby, DE1 1BS, 10.30am – 12.30pm.

Discover how the latest 3D scanning technology is allowing us to make our collections
accessible in new ways. Come and have a go at some 3D scanning and help us record our
objects.

Friday 22nd June

England Lions vs India A, The 3aaa County Ground, Nottingham Road, Derby, DE21 6DA, 11am – 6.45pm.

The best young players in the county game will go up against the best upcoming players from India and West Indies as part of the one day tri-series. The Lions will first welcome India A to The 3aaa County Ground on Friday 22nd June. Adults – £5 Under 16s – £1

Saturday 23rd June

Summer Fayre, Rycote Centre, Parker Street, Derby, DE1 3HF, 1pm – 4pm.

Be inspired by the displays of learners’ work and browse our stalls of hand made goods.

Try something new by taking part in a taster activity (including-pasta making, family craft, British Sign Language and modern foreign languages). Enjoy some delicious refreshments served by our catering students.

Relax with some music from our Banjo and Guitar groups. Bid for something in our charity auction and help raise money for cancer research.
