The Council is aware of recent articles that suggest a £400,000 gap in the Council’s proposals for its future library service; this reporting is based on a misinterpretation of figures provided in response to a Freedom of Information request.

The response, which is publicly available on our web site, www.derby.gov.uk (FOI 9334) includes a detailed spreadsheet for each option which formed the basis of recent public consultation on the future of the library service in Derby. The figures clearly demonstrate how the savings quoted during the Libraries consultation were calculated.

The four spreadsheets demonstrate that options B, C and D would all deliver £648,000 savings while option A would deliver £967,000 savings.  These spreadsheets refute the allegation that the Council’s proposals would underachieve by £400,000 and that our public consultation was flawed.

The Council has been entirely transparent throughout public consultation and strongly refutes allegations to the contrary.
