Our Local Area Co-ordinators (LACs) are connecting citizens with community projects and activities so they are less isolated socially and able to continue living independently.

Michael is in his 70s and has been in low spirits since the death of his wife. Living on his own, he has struggled to take care of himself and his home. Michael came to the attention of his Local Area Co-Ordinator, Roger Teague. Roger has arranged for the fire service to visit to install smoke alarms and provide fire retardant bedding, introduced Michael to a local lunch club, ensured he gets access to essential medical help through nurse visits – and has even put up curtains!

Roger said:

“It was a big step for Michael to go out to the lunch club for a Christmas meal, but he really enjoyed it. This is what my job is all about – drawing on the spirit of the local community to make a difference to people’s lives.”
