In Derby is pleased to announce that events will be taking place on Derby parks to celebrate Love Parks Week. The events will run at various parks around the city from Monday 31st July to Friday 4th August.

Love Parks is a community hub with a focus on continual celebration of parks and green spaces throughout Britain, with an annual week of festivities taking place every summer to encourage people to celebrate their local park. Derby City Council will be taking part in Love Parks Week by holding superhero themed picnics at five popular parks.

The Superhero Picnics in the Park are designed to encourage families to head to the nearest park holding an event, dress as a superhero and bring a picnic to enjoy. Events are free to attend and each day will run from 11.00am to 3.00pm.

Markeaton Park, Darley Park, Derby Arboretum, Chaddesden Park and Sunnydale Park will all be hosting celebrations throughout Love Parks Week, with a number of family-friendly activities available throughout the week. Many local businesses and charities will also be in attendance.

Popular local fitness group Buggybabes will be on hand to provide taster sessions at Markeaton Park and Darley Park. The group is designed for new mums to meet friends and exercise in the fresh air. Buggybabes meets twice weekly at Darley Park, every Monday at 2.00pm and Thursday at 10.30am.

Families can enjoy a craft workshop from Jumping Clay at Markeaton Park, Darley Park and Chaddesden Park. A relatively new addition to the Markeaton Park Craft Village, Jumping Clay has already proved to be a hit with local families, offering creative workshops throughout the year and workshops during school holidays. Prices for this activity will be available on site.

There will be arts workshops available for families to take part in at Derby Arboretum, run by Spiral Arts. Based at the Arboretum, Spiral Arts have been coordinating exciting community projects since 2005 and work with many local businesses to facilitate participatory workshops as a vehicle for social interaction, in order to bring together diverse groups.

Youngsters can find their rhythm with Tribal Vibes – drumming workshops and drumming circles with a focus on participation, encouragement and empowerment. Tribal Vibes will provide a number of drums of varying sizes so everybody can give it a go. Workshops will be taking place at Markeaton Park, Darley Park and Derby Arboretum.

Sporting Futures will be attending every day of Love Parks Week, to allow families to try out a wide range of different sports. Children will be encouraged to try something new, as Sporting Futures aims to improve the lives of young people through sport. This is a great way to find a new hobby or simply stay active for the afternoon and have fun.

Also in attendance will be Derby Homes, Families Information Service, Derby SEND and the friends groups of the parks, with more activities to be announced.

The launch of Love Parks Week will be taking place at Markeaton Park on Monday 31st July, and subsequent events will be held on Tuesday 1st August at Darley Park, Wednesday 2nd August at Derby Arboretum, Thursday 3rd August at Chaddesden Park and Friday 4th August at Sunnydale Park. Time to get the picnic ready!

More information will be available on the In Derby website and on the Derby Parks facebook and twitter in the run up to the event.
