Derby Market Hall is hosting the annual NABMA Love Your Local Market celebration and traders are calling on Derby’s budding entrepreneurs to take the opportunity to have a free stall for a day during the event.

This year’s global theme is “Markets – Close to Your Heart” and pop up traders selling crafts and jewellery will be joining health and community charities and local exercise groups at the Market Hall during the fortnight’s campaign.

The aim of the campaign is to raise the profile of markets across the UK, encourage start-up businesses and increase young people’s involvement in markets and the annual event has been adopted internationally with 24 countries supporting Love Your Local Market.

Linda Aston, Chair of Derby Market Hall Traders’ Association said:

“Our Market Hall traders are a group of knowledgeable and experienced local businesspeople who can offer support to young budding traders wanting to join the Market Hall during a very exciting period in the Market Hall’s regeneration. We are delighted to be welcoming community organisations to support the traders during Love Your Local Market fortnight and help to spread our message that buying local is best for sustainability and the local economy.”

NABMA President, Chris Rosling Joseph said:

“This year’s theme, Markets: Close to Your Heart reflects the importance of markets as the beating heart of communities across our villages, towns and cities.”

All the events at the Market Hall are free and include a community needlework session to develop your crochet and knitting skills and a photo area for customers to take their own Royal Wedding day photos on Saturday 19th May to celebrate the Royal nuptials.
