The first phase of the canal path improvements in Allenton is now complete.  The improvements have seen the cycle path between Harvey Road and London Road widened from three metres to five metres, allowing better access for both pedestrians and cyclists.  Other improvements include widened entrance points, new seating areas, and cutting back overgrowth to give the route a safer, clean appearance.

Councillor Matthew Holmes, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Public Protection said

“I am delighted that the City continues to invest money on improvements to encourage more people to walk and cycle.  Not only does this improve the health and wellbeing of individuals, it will also contribute to improved air quality within Derby.”

Phase two is now underway and involves widening the current path through Alvaston Park to the Riverside Path to five metres. Future plans are in place to also widen and improve the Canal Path from Harvey Road to Sinfin Moor Lane and the Riverside Path leading to the City centre.
