QUAD in Derby hosts a selection of events for various ages to celebrate to celebrate International Women’s Day in March.
International Womens Day Gaming by Girls takes place in QUAD on Saturday 7th March, 1:30pm to 4:00pm, £5.00 per person, advance booking is recommended.
Suitable for ages eight to 14 years, International Women’s Day: Gaming by Girls is an artist-led game design workshop. From coding and narrative to character and level design, girls have played key roles in creating great games for decades. The workshop will use Bloxels to design the characters, animation, levels and more for an iPad platform game by girls for girls.
International Women’s Day: Listen Love Learn takes place on Saturday 7th March, drop-in from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, free.
Suitable for all ages, QUAD’s Listen Love Learn team to get creative and celebrate the women who are there when we need them, whether it’s a mum, grandmother, sister, auntie, carer or friend.
Shextreme Film Festival UK Tour takes place in QUAD on Sunday 8th March at 6:30pm.
A selection of inspirational stories, encompassing mountaineering, biking, surfing, skiing, slacklining and more. Leading the charge for gender equality in adventure filmmaking, this is an exciting and inspiring celebration of adventurous, active women sharing their empowering stories both on screen and behind the camera.
The programme includes nine short films; an animation reflecting the effects of time spent in the mountains; the mental wellbeing benefits of mountain biking; a swimming champion on a broken boat in the Mediterranean; a surreal journey in Norway with freeride skier Lena Stoffel; a surf documentary exploring the relationship and its link to our mental wellness; Siberian shamans and slackline; India’s first women’s ice hockey team as they compete for international glory; and a celebration of active women from dirt to waves to ice.
