Update: Thursday 17th August, 10.50am

We have been informed by our Parks team and Police that the trespassers left Racecourse Park on Wednesday afternoon/evening.

Wednesday 16 August

Following reports from residents about illegal trespassing by travellers on Racecourse Park, our Legal Services team will issue a Notice to Quit today, accompanied by officers from Derbyshire Constabulary. The notice requires the travellers to vacate the site within 24 hours.

Should they fail to comply with the notice, our Legal Services team will issue court proceedings to seek to gain possession of the land via a County Court process.

Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Public Protection, Cllr Afzal, comments:

“The council has to operate within the legal framework available to move the travellers on and the council’s legal team are currently engaged in this process. In the meantime we will be liaising with the police to respond to any community concerns and Streetpride will investigate the site to manage any waste issues.”

We will continue to update this page so please check back or follow us on twitter or Facebook.
