Derby City Council officers and members are very saddened to hear of the sudden death of John Stewart, 72, the City Council’s former planning officer, who has been killed in a road traffic accident while out cycling.
John, who worked at the Council for an unbroken period of 47 years, died following an accident on the A50 near Foston on Thursday evening. (June 16).
In a distinguished career, which started at the age of 16, John was involved in many major schemes including the Pride Park redevelopment, the Connecting Derby project and the Roundhouse conversion.
Paul Robinson, the chief executive of Derby City Council, said:
“Members and officers at the City Council are truly saddened to hear of John’s sudden death.
“His working life was spent serving the people of Derby and to give 47 years of unbroken service working on such projects is remarkable.
“Everyone at Derby City Council sends their sympathies and thoughts to John’s family at this very sad time.”
