The Council is to undertake additional improvement work at Pear Tree Library during its scheduled temporary closure in April, as it prepares to make room forU books arriving from Central Library.

In order for added work to take place, the library will close temporarily on Thursday 12th April, and reopen in June.

Additional books are being transferred to Pear Tree Library in preparation for Central Library’s relocation to the new Riverside Library at the Council House.

Pear Tree is currently part of an improvement project to increase its stock holding capacity and offer enhanced facilities to the local community.

Considerable alterations to the layout of the library will be carried out to create extra space.  This entails expanding the public area and relocating library PC’s to a newly created space, which will accommodate adult stock, particularly books in other languages. Work is also being carried out to open up the children’s library with the aim of using it as a flexible space to hold events and activities. Improvements will also continue into other areas of the library. For example, the library counter will be reduced in size and a self-service machine and drop box will be located next to the counter.  This self-service area will provide an improved flow at the library counter, which will reduce waiting times for library users.

During the temporary closures of these three libraries, eBooks will continue to be available 24/7 and other city libraries will remain open.
