Santa and his favourite elf will be landing at Derby Market Hall this Saturday (2nd December) as the market gets in the festive spirit.
Twinkle Elf will be helping Santa grant Christmas wishes and make dreams come true for Derby’s little ones (and the little at heart!).
The Christmas grotto is open from 10.30am to 4.00pm every Saturday in December and on Christmas Eve at Stall 2 in the Market Hall. Tickets cost £4 per child and no booking is required – first come, first served!
A 50% donation from all ticket sales will be made to the Mayor’s Charities this year which are: Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre, Safe and Sound, Children First, the British Red Cross and the Derby Museums Trust. The Mayor of Derby, Councillor John Whitby has set an ambitious target of raising £25,000 for his year in office and Derby Market Hall is proud to be supporting his fund-raising efforts.
Councillor John Whitby, the Mayor of Derby said:
“I am delighted that Derby Market Hall will be supporting my charities this Christmas. It is great to know that by taking your children to visit Father Christmas, so many people will benefit from the money raised. I would encourage people to visit the Christmas Grotto at the Market Hall and start their festive celebrations while making a donation to charity.”
Linda Aston, Chair of Derby Market Hall Traders Association added:
“We are so pleased Santa and Twinkle are joining us this year and bringing so much joy to Derby’s youngest residents. I think Christmas is the perfect time to show your generous side and help us to raise funds for the Mayor’s Charities, which help many disadvantaged children from Derby.”
The Walnut Cracker carol singers will be entertaining the market’s shoppers every Saturday in December and will be joined by live performances from local artists such as the Derby Saxophone Quartet and Steps For The Future.
