There are a number of exciting events taking place across Derby over the festive period.
Here’s a selection of them:
Christmas Ice Rink (Until 4 January)
Whether out with a group of friends, spending time as a family or looking for a venue for a work Christmas party, a spin on the Cathedral Quarter 3aaa Ice Rink will be a fabulous festive treat!
Derby’s Market Place plays host to the purpose-built Cathedral Quarter 3aaa Ice Rink this winter, made of real ice. Adults and children alike of all abilities can whizz around in 50-minute sessions, running hourly, with skate hire included. The Market Place also features other attractions such as live music, food and Christmas gift fairs.
The Winter Wonderland at the Market Hall (until 23rd December)
The Market Hall has been transformed into a magical traditional Christmas experience, complete with Santa’s Grotto, Mrs Claus’ Post Office, ‘Elfie Self-ie trail’, roaming pantomime, lunchtime musical concerts, interactive workshops and activities for all the family to enjoy.
Some activities are chargeable.
Christmas Arts and Crafts Fair
Find a unique gift for someone special. There’s something for everyone, so have a wander through the fair full of independent crafters.
Christmas in the Park for all of the family, including traditional rides, food, carols, brass bands, wreath making, visits from Santa, festive face painting and much more.
Cinderella – showing until 3rd January, Derby Arena
The classic fairy tale of a beautiful girl forced to serve her jealous stepsisters. Aided by the silly but loveable Buttons and a Fairy Godmother carefully watching over her, Cinderella dreams of escaping her misery and finding true love and happiness.
Starring TV, West End and Comedy star Richard Blackwood as Buttons, Mrs Brown’s Boys’ Winnie McGoogan Eilish O’Carroll as the Fairy Godmother and Art Attack’s Lloyd Warbey as Dandini.
Captain Sprout and the Christmas Pirates, Guildhall Theatre, 8th – 28th December
Batten down the hatches for Captain Sprout and the Christmas Pirates are about to ruin everyone’s festive season. They are set to pillage every Christmas stocking this side of Derby by stealing the children’s presents from under their noses and running off with a sack full of booty.
Who will make them walk the plank? Which lad or lassie can stop this band of naughty pirates? Cast yourselves off and join the Babbling Vagabonds in this swashbuckling adventure.
